A Wave of Spam Taught Half the Timeline Who Was Watching

A coordinated wave of reply-spam hit Damus and Ditto relays, tagging hundreds of accounts into a single string of junk β€” and for a day, strangers compared notes in real time on how bad it was and what to do about it.

Classical Music noticed it in the numbers first: It seems that yesterday started a new wave of spam, this time with replies. I just made one post and suddenly got 89 replies, spread across random posts, not just the last one. 🀦 We'll end up talking by putting messages in zaps.

Don't Believe The Vibe named the source and the fix in the same breath: Damus and ditto relays (at least) are getting spammed and notification spam you once you post something. Don't. Or block these 2 relays temporarily until they fix it.

LWB found the wave landing on their own contact list: they're taggin a bunch of users, many from my contact list, with me. there's a bunch of them, like hundreds of them, soiling this space with their trash. but I guess they're used to it

Logen posted the first picture of it doing the rounds: This screenshot is the first I've seen of the spam 😎 By the time this edition closed, nobody had said who was behind it, or why β€” only that everyone reading had seen the same mess arrive in their own notifications.

Eleven Votes Short, Then Overtaken Anyway

Ungovernable filed the number that mattered: The Clarity Act failed 49-50 on 15 September, eleven votes short of the sixty needed to end debate.

The regulator didn't wait for a second attempt. Two days after the vote the CFTC sent its own crypto market rulemaking to the White House for review. It was sitting ready and waiting. The same account's read on the whole cycle was blunt: This stuff is never going to be accepted by the powers that be, because it gives the individual more freedom. All of it is theater.

Reaction

Everyone Wants "Sign In With Apple." Nobody Agrees What That Means for a Key.

Guy Swann tried to explain what he meant by delegation, and what he didn't: my Nostr key only posts a list of attestation that say "these 10 keys are all me" same as I log into websites and say "these sessions are all mine" using cookies and account credentials.

The goal, he said, was never a fix for himself: I'm not looking for a solution *for me.* I'm looking for a general solution to make the UX feel like the "sign in with apple" option and retain the general security and isolation of your core account keys. He was plain about why: My own remote signer works fine, I'm just never going to get my mom to do that.

Settebello wasn't convinced there's a version of this without a cost. if you want to remove friction, you have no choice to "trust" at all certainly level where you import your key. The alternative, in the same account's view: Or else you are left with remote signers and add a middle man.

How Fast Is Fast, Now

BITKARROT put the familiar names in their place first: The familiar names β€” GPT, Gemini, Claude β€” all run at roughly 100 tokens a second. Then the comparison: There's a company called Cerebras (the biggest hardware company IPO in history): 10x faster starting at 1000 tokens a second and past that, Taalas: a 100x faster, running at 14,000 -17,000 tokens per second.

Elsewhere, Ungovernable's account made the case that the frontier isn't the only place worth watching: Are we at the point where running your own AI does not feel like a downgrade? and answered its own question β€” It started with DeepSeek v4 Flash being good enough and fast enough for everyday work without much compromise. A separate post from the same account went further: I genuinely think in the next twelve months we're gonna have Opus 4.6 or slightly higher level intelligence available for mobile phones. The reasoning offered was hardware, not hype β€” The 27B models that already match Opus 4.6 class need roughly 24 gigs to run, high end phones already carry twelve to sixteen, and a quantisation that dropped this week does nearly the same job in 12.

Only Accessed by Boat

HodlHomestead put a question to the timeline with no argument attached to it: Only accessed by boat. Would any of you live here? A second shot from the same stretch of water needed one word: Unreal.

Crowning Nostr's Fattest Bear

While Washington argued over votes, Bohemia ran an actual bracket. The entry criteria were specific: That's not your situationship, that's a Fat Bear Week contender. and the ask was direct β€” GO VOTE PLEASE With rounds still to come: We've got two more voting rounds after this to crown the first ever Nostr's Fattest Bear 🐻

The Water Came Anyway

jwilly's photostr thread turned a passing storm into something worth stopping on. The road's gone. Neighbors in a canoe. Mom holding her kid at the edge of it all. A second frame from the same run needed no caption beyond the one it got: Water takes over, deer just adapts. 🦌

Two Breaches, Filed a Day Apart

Dark Web Informer's wire kept moving. First, a French firm: The actor "imsolazymean" claims to have compromised Aestria, a French IT and cybersecurity services company, and released its data for free. Then a parking app used by millions: The actor "GoreTerminal" claims to have breached SpotAngels on September 25, 2026, and released the data for free without demanding a ransom. Neither claim carried independent confirmation.

Anders offered the whole story in one breath: Nice walk with the woman and the baby. Walking into the autumn. Really beautiful.
